About Amer

My name is Amer George Zahr. I was born in Amman, Jordan in June 1977 to Palestinian parents. Both my parents are originally from northern Palestine (The Galilee), namely Nazareth & Akka.

My mother was born in Akka and lived there until the mid-1960s when her family immigrated to California.

My father never lived in Nazareth as he became a refugee shortly after his birth in 1948. He was raised in Amman, completed his graduate studies in America, where he met and married my mother, and then returned to Jordan in the late 1970s.

In 1980, we became refugees once again and moved from Jordan to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I was raised in Philadelphia and then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan to attend the University of Michigan in 1995. I went to graduate school (MA in Mid-East Studies) and law school at U-M as well, and currently live in Ann Arbor.

Over the years, I have been an activist, writer, musician, student, comedian, teacher, and entrepreneur. I hope all of these pursuits will stay with me for some time to come.

I have received a BA in History, an MA in Middle East Studies, and a JD, all from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

That is a very short history. I will add as much as I can in the future.
